Platform Substructures MISIP Inspection

Geo Oceans was engaged by a major global operator to carry out a comprehensive Substructures Master In-Service Inspection Plan (MISIP) campaign offshore Western Australia. The scope involved detailed subsea inspection of platform jackets and associated structures, including General Visual Inspection (GVI) of all jacket members, caissons, legs, and J-tubes. Scour assessments were performed around pile configurations, alongside targeted Cathodic Protection (CP) measurements on selected anodes and structural members. The campaign also included Marine Growth (MG) surveys on representative sections, Anode Grading (AG), and Close Visual Inspection (CVI) of critical areas such as caisson guide supports and riser brackets. Additionally, Flooded Member Detection (FMD) was completed on selected jacket members. The project delivered a full suite of integrity data to support ongoing structural reliability and regulatory compliance.

Equipment

This inspection and intervention spread combines advanced remotely operated technology and specialist tooling to deliver efficient, high-quality subsea operations.

The Falcon HD and Falcon X ROVs are compact yet powerful observation-class vehicles known for their versatility, reliability, and ease of deployment. Ideal for tight spaces and challenging conditions, they support a wide range of tools including cathodic protection (CP) sensors, gamma-based flooded member detection (FMD), and high-pressure (HP) water jetting. Integrated with a Launch and Recovery System (LARS), these systems are rapidly deployable with minimal deck footprint, making them ideal for remote or space-constrained environments.

The Sonomatic Stingray is a compact, high-precision ultrasonic inspection unit designed for use with small ROVs or diver deployment. It delivers advanced wall thickness measurements and corrosion mapping in difficult-to-access areas, supporting critical integrity assessments. The Stingray’s modular design allows seamless integration with the Falcon ROVs, enabling fully remote ultrasonic inspections without diver intervention. Together, this equipment suite reduces operational risk, minimises vessel time, and provides reliable data for asset integrity management across a wide range of subsea applications.

Outcome

Geo Oceans successfully completed the MISIP inspection campaign offshore Western Australia using Falcon ROVs and the Sonomatic Stingray system. This efficient, diverless approach delivered high-quality data across all target areas, reducing vessel time and environmental impact. The project was completed on time, on budget, and with zero safety incidents, with all deliverables meeting or exceeding client expectations. The streamlined methodology also contributed to significantly lower carbon emissions, supporting the client’s environmental objectives.
